Compás de Sevillanas
“The compás of sevillanas is the rhythmic pattern that we will follow when executing the different markings when dancing them. And no matter what style of sevillanas you dance, the compás will always be the same. In fact, it is a convention that helps us to cross at the same moment the dance couples, regardless of the markings and figures that we execute before or after the corresponding crosses.”
Sevillanas Crosses
“The crosses in the sevillanas are the markings that serve, as its name indicates, to cross with the partner on the opposite side. We will distinguish 4 types of crosses, each one specific to each of the 4 sevillanas. The basic crossing is the only one that will be repeated in all the sevillanas and also serves to divide each sevillana into 3 thirds.”
Third Sevillana Flamenca Crossing
“We will call it 180º crossing, because in this occasion: first you execute a basic crossing or bullfighter’s crossing and then a new 180º semi-circle couple crossing, to cross to the opposite side. As the execution of feet and the braceo is the same as the 360º crossing, only practicing with the right foot, it will give you fluency to walk dancing to the rhythm of rumba flamenca and bulerias, with both feet.”
